RAB nabs 31 Jamatul Ansar, 14 KNF members so far

The Rapid Action Battalion so far arrested 31 members of the new militant group ‘Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya’ and 14 members of the Kuki-Chin National Front during their ongoing anti-militancy drive that began on October 10, 2022.

RAB’s legal and media wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin disclosed this at a press briefing on Thursday after arresting five more Jamatul Ansar members in Thanchi and Rowanchari of Bandarban.

The arrestees are – Nizamuddin Hiron alias Yusuf, 30, Saleh Ahmed alias Saiha, 27, Sadiqur Rahman Sumon alias Farkun, 30, Baijid Islam alias Muaz alias Bairu, 21, and Imran Bin Rahman Lakh alias Billal, 17.

Moin said RAB got a list of 55 people who left their homes after being radicalised by the new militant outfit. All the five arrested were on the list.

RAB’s intelligence ascertained that Md Anisur Rahman alias Mahmud is the chief of the militant outfit and it has a six-member panel who act as in-charge of invitation, military training, finance, media and advisory units, said Moin.

He also said that KNF chief Nathan Bawm, military commander so-called Brigadier General Vangchung Lian Bawm and other leader’s so-called media wing chief Lt Col Laljong Mui alias Mawaya and so-called Lt Col Lal Moon Thial alias Chir Chir Mayer trained up these missing members of the new militant group in the CHT hills area under their direct supervision. 

RAB arrested 14 KNF members so far in the CHT. According to the arrestees, RAB came to know that the number of armed members of the KNF is around 200, Moin said.
