14 killed in road crashes in 3 districts

At least 12 people were killed in different road crashes in Barguna, Munshiganj and Bagerhat districts on Saturday. 

10 killed as microbus plunges into Barguna canal

Ten people were killed as a microbus carrying a bridal party plunged into a canal after a bridge collapse in Amtali upazila of Barguna on Saturday afternoon.

Asaduzzaman Mintu Mollick, chairman of Haldia union parishad, said a microbus carrying a bridal party and an auto-rickshaw fell into a canal after a bridge adjacent to Haldia Bazar collapsed around 2 pm, reports our local correspondent.

The passengers of the auto-rickshaw managed to come out from it but the ones of the microbus couldn't, he said.

However, locals and Fire Service personnel recovered 10 bodies from the spot when the report was filed.

2 killed in Munshiganj 

Two persons were killed and four others injured in a collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Nawabganj regional highway in Kharshur Taltala area of Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj district on Saturday, reports BSS.

The accident took place when the two vehicles collided head-on in the area around 10am, leaving six passengers injured, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Sirajdikhan Police Station M Mustafizur Rahman said.

Two passengers of the CNG, identified as- Sheikh Rahman, 58, and Shaheen Hossain, 26, were taken to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared them dead, ASP said.

The driver of the CNG and three other passengers are admitted at the health complex.

On information, Police rushed to the spot, moved the vehicles and eased out the traffic congestion, the police official added.

Father, son killed in Bagerhat crash 

What was supposed to be a routine visit to her father's house turned into a nightmare for Minu Begum. A tragic accident on the Bagerhat-Khulna Highway at Piljong in Fakirhat Upazila on Saturday resulted in the deaths of her husband and young son.

The deceased were identified as Minu’s husband Khalilur Rahman, 35, and their one-year-old son, reports UNB. 

According to Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Katakhali Highway Police, the accident occurred around 8pm when a bus collided with the motorbike carrying the family, instantly killing Khalilur Rahman and his son. Minu Begum sustained injuries in the accident.

Upon receiving information, police, with the assistance of the local fire service unit, recovered the bodies and sent them to a local hospital morgue. Minu Begum was taken to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Authorities have seized the bus involved in the accident, but the driver remains at large.
