15,000 apply for movement pass every minute

In every minute, 15,000 people are registering on Bangladesh Police’s mobile app Police Movement Pass for a ‘hassle free' movement during the blanket lockdown that would be enforced from Wednesday to tackle the second wave of coronavirus.

Md Sohail Rana, assistant inspector general for media and public relations at the police headquarters, said that around 1,25,000 applications for movement pass were filed on the mobile app every hour after it was launched on Tuesday.

The app was introduced to facilitate the city dwellers uninterrupted movement in and outside the capital during the lockdown period on valid grounds.

The police on Monday said that people needing to go out to provide essential service during the one-week COVID-19 restrictions from April 14 would require a “Movement pass,”.

The pass holder will be able to move on the road without any interruption.

The Inspector-General of Police, Benzir Ahmed, launched the app at Rajarbagh Police Lines and called on the people to remain at home during the blanket lockdown saying, “I don’t want to see anyone outside without a valid reason.”

Movement Pass will be given to service providers of different categories including medicine, medical, transportation of agricultural products through the site movementpass.police.gov.bd, said officials.

Conditional permission will be granted for a specified period after providing the required service.
People have to take a pass for every journey.

Everyone needs to fill in the information like name, mobile number, place of departure, destination, ID card or driving license, the reason for the journey etc to apply for a Movement Pass. Police will later issue a pass online.

The pass issued online will contain all the travel information. At the same time, there will be a QR code scanner, which can be scanned by the police personnel on duty at various check-posts to easily ensure the movement of the authorised person.
