15 shops gutted in Jashore market fire

Fifteen shops were gutted in a fire which broke out at the Hawkaers Market (Zila Parishad Super Market) in the district town on Wednesday night.

Kamal Uddin Bhuiya, assistant director of Jashore Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the fire broke out at the market around 10:45 pm and spread soon.

On information, four fire fighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze around 12:45 am.

However, what cause the fire could not be known yet.

It is suspected that the fire might have broken out from electric short circuit at Zila Parishad building adjacent to the market.

The affected shop owners claimed that the estimated loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 80-90 lakh.

Tarik Hasan Bipul, secretary of Traders Association, said, “The valuables of all the 15 shops were burnt down and the traders have incurred a huge loss as they have been preparing for their Eid sale.”
