Fire Service officials have declared Modern Mansion as ‘risky’ after cracks appeared on five pillars of the 15-storey building at Motijheel in the capital.

The authorities put up a signboard announcing it as 'risky building' after an inspection on Wednesday, said Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate.

Three pillars on the second floor and two on the third floor of the building developed cracks, he added.

A search and rescue team of Fire Service and Civil Defence visited the building after the cracks on the pillars were reported around 9:40pm on Sunday. The building was evacuated immediately.

This old building got approval for construction in 1962.
