12 companies, 15 vehicles fined Tk4.36 lakh for pollution

Mobile courts on Monday conducted operations in Savar, Sabujbagh, Mirpur, Bhatara, Lalbagh, and Shanirakhra areas of Dhaka as a part of the anti-pollution campaign and environment conservation activities.

The operation collected a fine of Tk 150,000 from a couple of contractors namely the National Development Engineering and Bismillah Stone Engineering as a measure for keeping building materials exposed to pollution in Hemayetpur area of Savar upazila. Four institutions in the Bhatara and Beraid areas have been charged Tk 145,000 for the same transgression. Four more contractors from Sabujbagh have been charged Tk 65,000 on the same count.

A fine of Tk 50,000 was levied on 14 vehicles for air pollution caused by vehicle black smoke in the Mirpur embankment area. A couple of vehicles from Shonir Akhra have been charged Tk 1,000 for honking beyond the permitted decibel. A company from Lalbagh has been fined Tk 10,000 for keeping building materials exposed to pollution and another company has been charged Tk 10,000 for running a loud generator beyond the permitted decibel.

The monitoring and enforcement wing of the Department of Environment and the district administration will continue the ongoing campaign against air pollution around Dhaka.
