150 Afghan students to arrive in Bangladesh

Some 150 Afghan female students of the Asian University for Women are scheduled to return to Dhaka on a chartered flight arranged by the university authority on Wednesday.

After landing in Dhaka, they will return to the Chattogram campus of the Asian University for Women (AUW) as per the rules of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

An official of the AUW confirmed the matter to the Dainik Amader Shomoy.

He said more than 150 Afghan women studying at the AUW had been contacting the authorities since July urging them to help them return to Bangladesh.

After the Taliban takeover, it was very difficult to get visas from the Bangladesh embassy due to security risks during the war, he added.

“We have finally been able to manage the visas from Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan,” the official said.

Rohingya students also return
The AUW authority has decided to bring back the Rohingya students staying at the camps in Ukhia-Teknaf in accordance with the rules and regulations of the UGC. More than one hundred Rohingya students are returning to the Bangladesh campus of this foreign institution soon, including some from Myanmar’s Yangon.
