At least 17 people drowned and four more went missing after a trawler capsized in a haor near Uchitpur area of Netrokona's Madan upazila on Wednesday noon.
The trawler carrying 48 passengers sank between 11:30am and 12pm, Madan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Bulbul Ahmed confirmed the information to The Business Post.
On information, divers of fire service and civil defence rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies, the UNO said.
So far, 17 bodies and 30 survivors have been rescued while four others are missing, he added.
The passengers were teachers and students from some madrasas in Mymensingh who came to visit haor.
UNO Bulbul Ahmed said, although the cause of the sinking of the trawler could not be ascertained, the incident may have taken place due to sudden change in the weather in the haor which is common during this season.
