Two Bangladeshi women have been elected for the first time as councillors at the North South Wales council elections in Australia.

Four Bangladeshi women fought as candidates in the election. Labour candidate Sabrin Farooqui and Liberal candidate Sajeda Akhtar Sanjida came out victorious.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the election for 124 city council areas of NSW was postponed twice. It was finally held on December 4.

Around 30 Bangladeshi candidates took part in this election. Masud Chowdhury from Campbelltown city council and Sumon Saha from Cumberland city council, both labor candidates, were re-elected.

Independent candidate Shibli Chowdhury was elected from regional council Dubbo.
