Two people were crushed to death under the wheels of a train in Kalihati upazila of Tangail early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Md Sagar, 35, from Santhia upazila of Pabna district, and Md Sajeeb, 33, from Aminpur upazila of the same district.
According to locals, the incident took place while they were walking on the railway track near Bangabandhu Bridge in Hatia area of the upazila around 2:30am.
Earlier, a vehicle hit the private car carrying Sagar and Sajeeb on the east side of Bangabandhu Bridge when they were going to Pabna from Dhaka in the wee hours of Thursday. The two managed to come out of the car and were walking on the railway tracks when the accident occurred, the locals added.
Confirming the matter, Tangail’s Gharinda Railway Police Outpost In-charge Fazlul Haque said the bodies have been kept at the police outpost and will be handed over to their families following a legal procedure.
