2 killed after lightning strikes firecracker factory in Mymensingh

At least two people were killed after a building used to make firecrackers went ablaze after being struck by lightning.

The incident took place at Banshhati village in Chandipasha union of Nandail upazila of Mymensingh around 6 am on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Nasima Begum, 30, and Afila Begum, 45.

Nandail Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman Akand confirmed the incident and said that two women were making firecrackers in the house when the fire erupted.

According to him, the chemicals used in firecrackers exploded as soon as lightning struck the building.

“The tin roof of the house was blown away, the walls were damaged,” he added.

“The two women died on the spot. The police inspected the scene and recovered the bodies,” the official added.

He further stated that legal action will be taken after an investigation of the incident.
