The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained two top officials of Amin Manufacturing Company over instigating the suicide of Gazi Anis who set himself on fire in front of the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.

On secret information, the battalion members apprehended Managing Director Nurul Amin and Director Fatema Amin of the company, after conducting a drive in the city’s Uttara area on Tuesday evening, said ASP Imran Khan of RAB headquarters (media wing).

Earlier in the day, Nazrul Islam, a brother of the victim filed a case with Shahbagh police station accusing the detainees for instigating suicide of the victim, said Sub-Inspector Golam Hossain.

Anis, 45, a businessman from Kushtia's Kumarkhali upazila, took the extreme step at 5:00pm on Monday "out of frustration" after Henolux, the company, refused to settle his dues of Tk 1.26 crore, according to some journalists.

Journalists and law enforcers present at the scene poured water on him and rushed him to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in a critical condition.

Anis suffered 85 per cent burns and was kept on life support at the hospital, according to doctors.

He succumbed to his injuries at 6:00am Tuesday, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost.
