Two people, including a Rohingya woman, were killed in a gunfight between members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) at a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar on Friday afternoon.
The deceased were Nur Haba, 50, wife of Nurul Islam, and Md Hasim, 32, a suspected member of the ARSA.
The gunfight took place at Camp-18 around 2pm.
Confirming the matter, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammad Faruk Ahmed of APBn-8 said acting on a tip-off that a group of 20 to 25 ARSA members was staying at Block-17 of the camp, a team of the law enforcers raided there.
Sensing their presence, the ARSA terrorists opened fire on the APBn members prompting them to retaliate for self-defence, he said.
Two APBn personnel were also injured in the incident.
The law enforcers apprehended Sadek, a member of the ARSA, while he was fleeing the scene, the official added.
