Two underage girls drowned after a boat they were in capsized in a waterbody in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka on Saturday.
They were identified as—Mim and Shifa, both aged 12.
Dhamrai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dipak Chandra Saha confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
The duo along with three other girls went on a boat trip in Mandrachap waterbody in the afternoon. At one stage, as the boat sank, all of them fell into the water.
They were rescued by locals and rushed to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex where physicians pronounced Mim and Shifa dead.
The bodies will be handed over to the victims' families, said the OC.
