2 minor girls electrocuted in Kurigram

Two minor girls died from electrocution and another sustained injuries at Sonapur village in Rowmari upazila of Kurigram district on Wednesday noon.

The deceased are Mahi Akter, 9, daughter of Mominul Islam, and Bindu Akter, 9, daughter of  Bodhhu Miah, from  Sonapur village under the Chashoulmari union of the upazila.

The injured is Maria Akter, 8, daughter of Fazlul Hoque of the same village.

Union Parishad Chairman Saidur Rahman Dulal said the three girls first took a bath in a pond and then went to an electricity-run water pump at the house of Mahi at noon.

Mahi was electrocuted when she touched the running water pump, he said, adding that Bindu and Maria got an electric shock when she tried to save Mahi.

Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot and rushed them to Rowmari Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared Mahin and Bindu dead, said the hospital’s physician Dr Sabrina Chhattar.

The rest is undergoing treatment at the hospital, she said.

Rowmari Police Station’s Officer-in-charge Rupkumar Sarkar confirmed the incident saying that police personnel were sent to the spot.
