At least two fishermen went missing after 18 trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal on Friday night due to the sudden storm.

Eight big trawlers sank in the deep sea around 45 kilometres off Dublar Char in East Sundarbans of Bagerhat while 10 medium-sized trawlers capsized in the Bay’s 6 No buoy area around 10:00pm.

Confirming the incident, Prahlad Chandra Roy, officer-in-charge of Dublar forest patrol outpost, said members of Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Coast Guard, and Forest Department launched rescue operations on Saturday morning.

Alongside, 100 trawlers of Dublar Char are now conducting salvage operations in the sea, he said.

Meanwhile, traders of dry fish in Dublar Char incurred a loss of Tk 2 crore due to the storm, the official added.
