Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Amir Hossain and Constable Sujan Chandra – of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police – have been suspended over the death of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) student Abu Sayeed.
Of the duo, Amir Hossain was working in Rangpur Mohanagar Police Lines, while Sujan was in Tajhat Police Station of Mohanagar Police, reports Amader Shomoy Rangpur Bureau.
Confirming the matter, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman said, “During the preliminary investigation into the killing of Abu Sayeed, allegations of unprofessional behavior against the two policemen have been proved.
“They have been suspended for this reason.”
On July 16, 12th batch English student Abu Sayeed was shot dead by the police amid the quota reform movement. The video of policemen shooting Sayeed quickly went viral on social media.
However, according to the statement of a case filed by the police as a plaintiff, Abu Sayeed died of injuries received from bricks and mortars thrown by protesters.
