2 'robbers' killed in Gazipur 'gunfight'

Two alleged robbers were killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Bhawal National Park area of Gazipur early Monday.

The deceased could not be identified yet. They were aged around 30-32.

RAB-1 Porabari camp commander Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter to the media.

He said a patrol team of RAB carried out a drive on a tip-off that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit a robbery in the Bhawal National Park area near Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway around 2:30 am Monday.

When the team approached the area, the robbers opened fire at them sensing their presence, forcing them to fire back in retaliation, said Mamun.

As the gunfight ended, two of the robbers were found on the spot with bullet wounds and were rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where they were pronounced dead by the physicians.

A foreign pistol, a one-shooter gun and bullets were recovered from the spot, said

A RAB member Wasim also sustained injuries in the gunfight, said the camp commander.
