A tribunal in Dhaka has sentenced two people to death for killing a former principal of Eden Mohila College Mahfuza Chowdhury Pervin.
Judge Abu Jafar Md Kamruzzaman of Dhaka 1st Speedy Trial Tribunal passed the order on Sunday.
The convicts are Ruma alias Reshma and Rikta Akter alias Swapna.
Earlier on September 30, a special tribunal set October 4 for pronouncing judgment in a case lodged over the murder of former principal of Eden Mohila College Mahfuza Chowdhury Pervin.
Judge Abu Jafar Md Kamruzzaman of Dhaka 1st Speedy Trial Tribunal set the date as both the prosecution and defence concluded their closing arguments on September 30.
Police on February 10, 2019, recovered the body of Pervin from her Sukanya Tower flat at Elephant Road in the capital. Her husband Ismat Kader Gama filed a murder case with New Market Police Station against three, two housemaids Ruma alias Reshma and Rikta Akter alias Swapna and Runu Begum, who brought the first two to that home.
Police later managed to arrest all the three accused, of whom Reshma and Swapna confessed killing Pervin.
Investigation officer and sub-inspector of New Market Police Station on July 21 filed a charge sheet against Reshma and Swapna, dropping the name of Runu Begum, as police did not find her involvement in the crime.
The court on February 9, 2020, framed charges against the two accused.
Mahfuza Chowdhury was the principal of the Eden Mohila College from February 2009 to April 2012.
