According to Global Wealth Report 2021 published by Credit Suisse, Bangladesh had 21,399 millionaires at the end of 2020.

The millionaires were in a range of owning wealth worth $1-5 million.

Bangladesh by 2020 had a $45 billion increase in total household wealth -- a 5.8 per cent increase, the report said.

Also in the same year, the country had a 3.7 per cent increase in wealth per adult.

According to the report's 2019 edition, Bangladesh had 13,339 millionaires by the end of 2018.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s neighbour India had 697,655 millionaires at the end of 2020 while Pakistan had 15,534.

The report estimates that $17.5 trillion was lost from total global household wealth between January and March 2020, equivalent to a fall of 4.4 per cent.

Wealth creation in 2020 was largely immune to the challenges facing the world due to the actions taken by governments and central banks to mitigate the economic impact of Covid-19.

However, total global wealth grew by 7.4 per cent and wealth per adult rose by 6 per cent to reach another record high of $79,952.

Overall, the countries most affected by the pandemic have not fared worse in terms of wealth creation.

Now in its twelfth edition, the Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report is a comprehensive and up-to-date source of information on global household wealth.
