21 judges, 62 officials of subordinate courts diagnosed with coronavirus

As of Saturday night, a total of 21 judges and 62 staff members of subordinate courts across the country tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection.

Dr Md Rezaul Karim, Public Relations Officer of the law ministry, confirmed the matter on Sunday.

He said Md Kawser, an employee of Madaripur District Judge’s Court, and Mohiuddin Mohan, an office assistant of Naogaon District Judge’s Court, died with Covid-19 symptoms on Thursday. Their samples were already sent for testing, results of which are yet to return.

Earlier on Saturday, Md Saifur Rahman, special officer of Bangladesh Supreme Court, informed that 15 coronavirus-infected judges of subordinate courts were undergoing treatment at home currently.

Corona-infected Judge Ferdous Ahmed of Lalmonirhat Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal is undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

However, a five-member committee has been formed with Supreme Court Registrar as its head to keep constant communication over the infections of Supreme Court judges and officials.

Besides, another five-member committee has been formed to supervise the treatment of subordinate court officials.

39 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Sunday, taking the death toll to 1,464. Besides, 3,531 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 112,306 confirmed cases in total.
