23 patients died from Covid-19 in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours as of Friday, taking the death toll to 582. Besides, 2,523 more people tested positive, which is the highest single-day record of infections in the country, making 42,844 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Friday.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 12,982 samples were collected and 11,301 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 287,067 samples have been tested in the country.
With 590 new recoveries, a total of 9,015 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.
The deceased, of whom 19 were males and 4 females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 11-20, one between 21-30, two were between 31-40, five between 41-50, five between 51-60, six between 61-70, one between 71-80, and one between 81-90.
Under division-wise categorization, 10 hailed from Dhaka, 9 from Chittagong, 2 from Rangpur, 1 from Barishal, and 1 from Sylhet.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 360,308 as of Friday morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.
So far, 5,808,946 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 2,963,700 infected patients, 2,909,728 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 53,972 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 2,415,960 people have recovered.
