26 districts under coronavirus lockdown

A total of 26 districts and 6 upazilas have been placed under lockdown so far in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh.

The districts are — Gopalganj, Nilphamari, Mymensingh, Shariatpur, Dinajpur, Naogaon, Narayanganj, Tangail, Netrokona, Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Thakurgaon, Brahmanbaria, Gazipur, Rajbari, Sunamganj, Lakshmipur, Barishal, Cox’s Bazar, Narsingdi, Cumilla, Noakhali, Gaibandha, Chandpur, Pirojpur and Satkhira.

The government, in separate moves, put the districts under lockdown restricting public movement as cases of the virus infection started to rise countrywide.

Six upazilas – Dumki of Patuakhali, Shibchar of Madaripur, Amtali of Barguna, Savar of Dhaka, Basail of Tangail and Satkania of Chattogram are also under lockdown.

Narayanganj and Tangail were the two first districts to come under lockdown on April 7.

In Gopalganj, 17 people, including 10 police members tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

In Nilphamari, 6 people, including 3 students and a physician tested COVID-19 positive on Wednesday (April 15).
