The health ministry has identified 11 areas under the Dhaka North and 16 under the Dhaka South city corporations as being more prone to a higher reproduction of Aedes mosquitoes than the rest of the capital.
A press release on ‘Pre-Monsoon Aedes Survey-2021’ revealed the matter on Thursday.
Breteau Index, the number of positive containers per 100 houses inspected, was considered as the measuring unit for the survey.
According to the Pre-Monsoon Aedes Survey, the highest BI of 23.3 was found in Lalmatia, Iqbal Road and 20.0 BI was found in both Sayedabad and North Jatrabari area.
Over 10 of BI were found in wards 13, 31, 35 and 36 of the DSCC and wards 12, 19, 34, 38, 39 and 46 of the DNCC.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare surveyed 70 places in both Dhaka city corporations under the National Malaria Elimination and Aedes Transmitted Disease Control Programme.
The Communicable Disease Control Programme, under the ministry, also conducted this survey in 69 wards in both city corporations of Dhaka.
A total of 20 teams worked for seven days on this survey which ended on April 4, 2021.
