At least 283 people were killed and 319 injured in road accidents across the country during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays despite suspension on inter-district public transportations according to a press release by Jatri Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad, a passenger welfare body.
The press release issued on Saturday added that 224 accidents took place across the country between May 8 and May 20 while one person was run over and killed by a train during the period.
Six people were killed in waterways accidents during the same period, according to the report.
A total of 19 bus-minibus, 67 truck-covered van and pickup and 34 car-microbus were involved in these accidents, according to data provided in the report. It further added that 45 locally-made vehicles and 93 motorcycles were also involved in these accidents.
The report was prepared jointly by the accident research and monitoring cell of Jatri Odhikar Songrokkhon Parishad and PassengerVoice.net.
According to the press release, 221 people were killed and 652 injured in 185 road accidents in 2019 while 162 were killed and 261 injured 2020 Eid holidays.
