As part of the government’s initiative to relocate Rohingya refugees to Bhasan Char, 3,000 Rohingyas will start their journey from Cox’s Bazar to the island on Tuesday in the fifth batch.
They have gathered at the transit point in Ukhiya upazila from where they will be carried to Chattogram. Later, they will be taken to the Bhasan Char island through the sea route.
Earlier, a total of 9,540 Rohingyas were relocated to the island in Noakhali in four phases.
Bangladesh is currently hosting more than 1.1 million Rohingyas. The majority of them began to come here since August 2017 fleeing persecution in their homeland of Rakhine, Myanmar.
