Police have filed three separate cases against 98 over clash between police and BNP activists in front of City College in the capital's Science Laboratory area on Tuesday.

Two cases were filed with Dhanmondi Police Station under the Explosives Act and the Special Powers Act while another case was filed with New Market Police Station on Wednesday.

Police said that BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, BNP's Publicity Affairs Secretary Shahiduiddin Chowdhury Annie, BNP Chairperson's Advisor Abul Khair Bhuiyan and Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku were among the accused in the case.

Dhanmondi Police Station Inspector (investigation) Saiful Islam said that 52 named BNP activists and "many unnamed" others were accused in each case.

“Sub-inspector Muyid Khan and Moazzem Hossain filed the two cases last night. 27 people who were arrested during the clash were made accused in the cases,” the inspector added.

New Market Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Gani Sabu said that their police personnel filed a case accusing 46 named and around 500 unnamed BNP men.

“Ten activists of BNP, who were arrested yesterday, were among the named accused,” the OC said.

Both officials said that they brought charges of attempted murder of police personnel, arson attack and vandalism of vehicles, unlawful gathering, obstructing law enforcers from discharging their duties, and producing and exploding crude bombs.

Earlier, activists of the BNP clashed with police and tried to set a BRTC double-decker on fire at Science Laboratory crossing on Tuesday.

Police said that BNP activists attacked police from the tail end of their march they brought out to press home a 10-point demand including holding the next general election under a non-party caretaker government.

They also accused the BNP activists of vandalising cars and trying to set a BRTC bus on fire.
