A feeder vessel sank partially in the Bay of Bengal on Thursday morning, with three containers going overboard, while its crew were rescued and taken to safety.
The incident took place in the Bhasan Char area around 11am.
Confirming the matter, Chittagong Port Authority Secretary Mohd Omar Faruk told The Business Post that the vessel “Pangaon Express” was heading towards Pangaon Inland Container Terminal from the Chattogram port.
Two tugboats, including Kandari-11, from the port have been sent to the spot, he said, adding that the Bangladesh Navy was also working to salvage the feeder vessel alongside the port authorities.
A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident and determine the extent of losses, he added.
