Three people, including a couple were killed in a road accident as a speeding passenger bus rammed into a CNG-run autorickshaw on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni on Friday night.

The deceased were Bangladesh Army’s former warrant officer Abu Taher, 59, his wife Salma Aktar, 48, and autorickshaw driver Mona Miah, 30.

Taher’s brother Sadek Hossain, panel chairman of Ghopal union under the upazila, confirmed the deaths of the three saying that his brother accompanied by wife Salma went to the house of his father-in-law in Banglabazar area under Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram, a nearby upazila of Feni.

Police and locals said the Dhaka-bound bus of Shymoli Paribahan knocked down the autorickshaw when it was taking a U-turn after coming out from a refueling pump by the highway in Samitir Bazar area under the upazila around 7pm.

The impact of the accident left the autorickshaw fallen into a roadside and the three critically injured, they said.

The injured were rushed to Feni Sadar Hospital where physicians declared them dead upon arrival.

Fazilpur Highway Police Station’s Officer-in-charge of Rashed Khan Chowdhury said the bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.

They recovered the damaged autorickshaw, he said, adding the bus could not be seized immediately.
