3 killed in Kutupalong Bazar fire

Three people were killed in a fire at Kutupalong Bazar adjacent to the Ukhia Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar early Friday.

The deceased were burned to death while sleeping inside a shop in the Bazar.

The identities of the victims could not be known immediately.

The fire, which gutted at least seven shops, broke out at about 3:30 am on Friday.

On information, two units of fire service rushed to the spot to douse the flame.

After an effort of about three hours, the fire service personnel managed to bring the flame under control.

Md Abdullah, deputy assistant director of Cox's Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defense, confirmed the matter to the Business Post.

“We found three bodies inside the gutted shops and handed over them to the police. They are possibly the employees of the shops,” he said.

The cause of the fire could not be known yet, he said.

A fire in Rohingya camp earlier on March 22 killed at least 15 people and destroyed 10,000 shelters, affecting some 45,000 refugees, according to UN agencies.
