Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has arrested three members, including a recruiter of Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya (JAFHS), on Monday from the city’s Kalyanpur and Gabtoli areas.

With the help of intelligence from the Special Branch (SB) of police, these culprits were taken into custody.

DMP DB Chief and Additional Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid said, “We also confiscated three smartphones and two cellular phones, containing images and recordings, of training from them.

“Rana Sheikh, one of the arrestees, is the unit manager of Alfa Islamic Life Insurance Company. He had been using his position at that company as a front for the terrorist group JAFHS where he was a recruiter.”

The DB chief added, “Rana has already recruited three people and sent them to Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) hideout in Bandarban for training. Rana even sent the KNF lakhs of taka to cover training costs.

“Rana, a black belt in martial arts, trained in Mymensingh under Maulana Abdur Rauf – the leader of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami Bangladesh (Huji-B) – before being sentenced to death in 2002.”

He studied at Bhaluka Madrasa in Mymensingh and was trained in both military and unarmed fighting as a member of Huji-B.

According to Harun-or-Rashid, Moshiur – another arrestee – belonged to the Islami Shashontontro Andolon. He received military and unarmed combat training in 2002–2003 at the Abdur Rauf Madrasa in Mymensingh as a member of the Huji–B.

He was arrested in Jhalakathi in 2013 together with leaders of the Huji-B, and he spent four and a half years in prison. On all counts, he was found guilty. He trained as a commando with the KNF terrorists in Bandarban for two years.

Conversely, Habibur Rahman was the organisation's newest hire. He was employed by Alfa Islamic Life Insurance Company and reported to Rana. Rana was about to recruit him in order to enlist him in the militant group and send him to Bandarban.
