Fire Service recorded at least three incidents of burning vehicles in 24 hours till 6am Wednesday.

An Agrani Bank staff bus was set on fire in Dhaka while a truck each was burnt in Gaibandha and Sherpur districts, said Shahjahan Shikdar, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence's Media Cell.

A total of 25 members of five firefighting units were engaged in dousing the flames during this period, added the Fire Service official.

Meanwhile, another spell of a 48-hour road-rail-waterways blockade, called by BNP and like-minded opposition parties, is underway across the country.

The blockade is meant to protest the schedule for the next national election announced by the Election Commission.

This is the 10th blockade called by BNP and like-minded opposition parties since October 31.

The blockade began at 6am Wednesday and will end at 6am on Friday.

The presence of public transport and commuters on Dhaka streets seemed normal, despite tension and fear of arson attacks.

Law enforcers were seen patrolling the streets and remained deployed at several important points of Dhaka.

Vehicles of media outlets, ambulances and vehicles transporting oxygen cylinders and medicines remain out of the purview of the blockade.

Earlier, BNP and other opposition parties observed blockades in nine phases to press home their demand for the resignation of the Awami League government and holding the next election under a non-partisan administration.

So far, 256 arson attacks have been recorded since October 28 till 6am on December 6. Of them, 250 vehicles were set on fire during the blockades and hartals.

Vehicles burned during this period included 155 buses, 43 trucks, 21 covered vans, eight motorbikes, and 23 others. Fifteen establishments were damaged while an ambulance was vandalised during the period, fire service said.
