Chattogram district administration has conducted operations as part of regular market monitoring in Khatunganj, the largest wholesale market of the port city of Chattogram, ahead of upcoming Ramadan.

During that time, RM Enterprise and Nabil Group one of Chattogram’s largest wholesalers of sugar were fined.

Besides, AB Traders, the largest importer of cardamom in Chattogram, was fined for selling such products at higher than market prices.

Chattogram Executive Magistrate of the District Administration, Prateek Dutta, conducted the operation and he said that reporters that, the operation was conducted to stabilise the wholesale and retail market of sugar.

He said, "Review of LC of AB Traders, it was found that the import price of cardamom was Tk 1,450 per kg but was being sold Tk 2,200 to Tk 3,100.

The owner of the traders fined Tk 40,000 and publicly promised that he would not sell cardamom for more than Tk 1,600 to Tk 2,000 depending per kg, said the magistrate.

Apart from this, RM Enterprises, one of the largest wholesalers of sugar in Chattogram, was fined Tk 30,000 and Nabil Group was fined Tk 50,000. RM Enterprises and Nabil Group did not have any procurement receipts.

RM Enterprises is conducted by Alamgir Parvez, brother of FBCCI President Mahbub Alam. Agricultural Marketing Officer Morshed Quader and a team from Kotwali police station provided full cooperation during the operation.
