30 injured as speeding bus crashes into market

At least 30 people were injured when a speeding bus crashed into a market due to a puncture of its wheel in Jasore's Barinagar area on Saturday.

Of the injured, some are identified as bus driver Miraj, 32, of Murli Junction in Jashore town, Nazrul Sheikh of Satkhira Sadar, Saidur Rahman of Kushtia Kumarkhali, Mostafizur Rahman of Barobazar, Babu, Pakhi Khatun, daughter of Mosharf Hossain of Abhaynagar Upazila and student of Kushtia University, Mubarak Sheikh of Kaliganj of Jhenaidah and Latif Mia.

Manjurul Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barobazar highway police station, said the speeding bus of Rupsa Paribahan was going to Kushtia from Khulna. When the vehicle reached Satmile Bazar around 1:15 pm, the front wheels of the bus punctured.

It then entered the Sonali Bank market, leaving several of its passengers injured.

On information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured and normalized the traffic.

The injured were treated at the local clinic.

He added that the seriously injured driver, Miaraj, was sent to Jashore General Hospital.
