At least 30 shops were gutted in a fire at Chowmuhani Bazar in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali in the early hours of Wednesday.
The fire sparked from an electric short circuit at a shop in the Bazar around 5:15am and soon engulfed the adjacent business establishments, acting director of Noakhali Fire Service Station Purna Chandra said.
On information, seven units of Chowmuhani, Maijdee, Kabirhat, Companiganj and Sonaimuri Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with the help of locals and affected businessmen after two hours of efforts, he added.
It is initially estimated to have caused a loss of several crores of takas, the affected businessmen claimed.
