As part of effort taken by the government, 318 more Bangladeshis returned home from Delhi and Chennai in two special flights on Saturday.
Of the returnees, 151 came from New Delhi by a special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines while 167 other came from Chennai by another special flight of US-Bangla Airlines, according to Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
Most of the returnees are patients who got stuck in India due to current lockdown there amid coronavirus outbreak. Students are also there among the returnees.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran and officials at the High Commission provided necessary support to Bangladeshi citizens at Indira Gandhi International Airport before their departure to Dhaka by a special flight of Biman.
The government has also arranged another special flight on Delhi-Dhaka route on May 5 (Tuesday) to bring back Bangladeshis who are stuck in India.
This will be operated by Biman, said the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. Those who did not get tickets for May 2 flight can now plan to travel on May 5.
The High Commission is in touch with the concerned authorities both in Bangladesh and India for early repatriation of those who want to return to Bangladesh.
Biman is operating the special flights in coordination with Bangladesh missions in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.
