35 more die as Bangladesh records 2,635 new positive cases

35 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Saturday (June 6), taking the death toll to 846.

Besides, 2,635 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 63,026 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Saturday afternoon. 

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 12,909 samples were collected and 12,486 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 3,84,851 samples have been tested in the country.

With 521 new recoveries, a total of 13,325 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 28 were males and seven females, belonged to the following age groups: two were 11-20, three between 21-30, two between 31-40, three between 41-50, 10 aged between 51-60, five between 61-70, nine between 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years.

25 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while nine died at home. The remaining one was already dead when brought to hospitals.

Under division-wise categorization, 20 hailed from the Dhaka division, eight from Chattogram, three from Rajshahi, two from Barishal and one from the Sylhet division.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 394,787 as of Saturday (June 6) morning, according to the data by Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 6,731,824 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 3,097,733 infected patients, 3,044,733 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 53,613 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.

So far, 3,348,831 people have recovered.
