37 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Wednesday, taking the death toll to 746. Besides, 2,695 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 55,140 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Wednesday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 15,103 samples were collected and 12,510 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 345,583 samples have been tested in the country.
With 470 new recoveries, a total of 11,590 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.
The deceased, of whom 28 were males and nine females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 21-30 years, three were between 31-40. five between 41-50, 12 aged between 51-60, 12 between 61-70 and four between 71-80 years.
31 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 5 died at home. The remaining one was already dead when brought to hospital.
Under division-wise categorisation, 19 hailed from the Dhaka division, 13 from Chattogram, one from Khulna, one from Sylhet, and two from the Rangpur division.
Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 380,205 as of Wednesday morning, according to the data by Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 6,377,596 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,092,465 infected patients, 3,037,938 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 54,527 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.
So far, 2,729,305 people have recovered.
