39 more deaths, 2,733 new positive cases in Bangladesh

39 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Thursday, taking the death toll to 2,496.

Besides, 2,733 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 196,323 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Thursday afternoon.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 13,548 samples were collected and 12,889 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 993,291 samples have been tested in the country. 

With 1,940 new recoveries, a total of 106,963 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 31 were males and eight females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 01-10 years, one between 11-20, two were between 31-40, three between 41-50 years, 12 between 51-60 years, 15 between 61-70, four between 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years.

Under division-wise categorisation, 18 hailed from the Dhaka division, six each from Chattogram and Khulna, three each from Rangpur and Sylhet, two from Barishal and one was from the Rajshahi division.

35 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas four died at home.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 583,359 as of Thursday morning, according to the data by the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 13,512,693 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 5,067,610 infected patients, 5,007,993 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 59,617 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.

So far, 7,530,731 people have recovered.
