Four schoolchildren from Ramu's Khuniapalang in Cox's Bazar have been abducted reportedly by two Rohingyas in Teknaf Huaikeng area while visiting Saint Martin's Island on Tuesday.

The miscreants demanded a ransom of Tk 20 lakh to get them back alive.

The four abducted students are Mohammad Kaiser (14), son of Abdur Rahim, Mizanur Rahman Nayan (14), son of Mohammad Alam of the same area, Jahedul Islam (15), son of Abdus Salam and Mizanur Rahman (14) son of Faridul Alam. Among them, Jahedul Islam is a 10th standard student of Sonarpara High School and the rest are 8th standard students.

According to the missing complaint filed with Ramu police station, two Rohingyas-- Jahangir Alam and Ibrahim from Ramu-- made friendship with the 4 boys. After gaining the trust of the children, they took them to Teknaf Huaikeng area on Tuesday around 10:00 am to make a trip to St. Martin's Island.

Since then, the four could not be traced. On the next noon, the relatives of the school kids were contacted from unknown numbers for a ransom of Tk 20 lakh.

If their guardians fail to pay the ransom, their bodies would be send back, according to the complained filed with the police station.

Accused Jahangir and his accomplice Mohammad Ibrahim lived in the 26th block of Nayapara Rohingya Camp in Teknaf.

“The two miscreants had taken the kids on a trip. When they were not returning home, we became tensed and tried to reach them over phone, but found those switched off,’’ Abdus Salam, father of Jahedul Islam, said.

Besides, the mobile phones of Jahangir and Ibrahim were also found switched off, he said.

“Later on Wednesday afternoon, they demanded Tk 20 lakh as ransom, otherwise threaten to kill them,” he added.

Confirming the matter, Anwarul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ramu police station, said, “A police team have been deployed to rescue the abducted students.”
