4 killed in bus-truck collision on Bangabandhu Expressway

Four people have been killed and 18 others injured after a bus collided with a truck on the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway in Munshiganj's Srinagar.

The accident took place at Sholghar bus stand area of the expressway around 9 am on Thursday, Hasara Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Molla Zakir Hossain confirmed the matter.

“A Shariatpur-bound Padma Travels bus rammed a broken-down truck standing on the side of the road from behind. Two passengers of the bus died on the spot. Two others died later on the way to the hospital,” said the OC.

The ones who died on the spot are Hajera Begum, 50, and Saiful Islam, 30. Their bodies have been handed over to their relatives, police said. Arif, 23, and an unidentified woman died on the way to the hospital. The rest of the injured have been taken to Sholghar Health Complex.

Farhana, an on-duty doctor at the emergency department of Sholghar Health Complex, said that two of those who were brought to the hospital died. Four of the 18 injured have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
