Four prosecution witnesses on Sunday recorded their statements before a Dhaka court against Regent Hospital Chairman Shahed Karim alias Md Shahed in a case filed under Arms Act with Uttara West Police Station.
The four witnesses are– Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) ADC Badruzzaman, SI Kabir Hossain, civilians Chan Miah and Nizamul.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh recorded the statements of the witnesses. Later, the court fixed September 14 for the next date to take prosecution of other witnesses.
Earlier on September 10, a Dhaka court started examining prosecution witnesses in an arms case against Shahed Karim.
The plaintiff of the case and detective branch inspector SM Gaffarul Alam testified at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh and the defence later started cross-examination of him.
The court later adjourned the hearing till September 13 as the defence failed to conclude the cross-examination.
The court on August 27 framed charges in the case, while the sole accused pleaded not guilty. Earlier on August 19, the court took into cognizance the charge sheet filed in the case.
Investigation Officer (IO) and DB Inspector Shairul filed the charge sheet at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan on July 30, while the court on August 13 transferred the case to Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court for further proceedings.
Shahed was arrested by RAB from Debhata upazila of Satkhira in the early hours of 15 July and was airlifted to the capital in the morning.
DB conducted a raid at one of his Uttara dens on 18 July and recovered illegal arms and narcotics. They later filed the case with Uttara West Police Station.
