A case has been filed against 12 named and 4,000 unnamed people for vandalising a police vehicle after a clash between garment workers and law enforcement officers in Gazipur's Konabari.
On Thursday night, Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Sub-Inspector Abu Sayed filed the case as the plaintiff at Konabari Police Station.
Eleven people arrested in connection with the incident were sent to jail on Friday afternoon. Many workers have fled to their villages fearing being arrested.
Nine garment factories in Gazipur's Konabari area have been closed indefinitely following ongoing worker unrest, protests, and vandalism. According to GMP sources, 22 other factories have also been closed.
The plaintiff in the case, SI Abu Sayed, said that on Thursday workers vandalised a police car stationed in front of the Tusuka Factory in the Konabari area.
“Eleven people have been arrested in regard to the vandalism case. Efforts are underway to arrest the rest involved in the incident by collecting CCTV footage and videos from the scene,” he added.
