41 patients died from Covid-19 in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours as of Wednesday, taking the death toll to 1,888.
Besides, 3,775 more people tested positive, making 149,258 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Wednesday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 16,898 samples were collected and 17,875 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 784,335 samples have been tested in the country.
With 2,484 new recoveries, a total of 62,102 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 38 were males and three females, belonged to the following age groups: four were between 31-40, five were between 41-50 years, 12 between 51-60 years, 11 between 61-70, seven between 71-80, one was between 81-90 years and one was about 100 years old.
Under division-wise categorisation, 13 hailed from the Dhaka division, 17 from Chattogram, five from Khulna, one from Rangpur, two from Sylhet and three from Barishal division.
23 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 18 died at home.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection stood at 509,779 as of Wednesday morning, according to the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 10,434,835 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 4,276,230 infected patients, 4,218,442 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 57,788 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.
So far, 5,322,785 people have recovered.
