42 more die as Bangladesh records 2,735 new positive cases

42 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Monday, taking the death toll to 930.

Besides, 2,735 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 68,504 confirmed cases in total. 

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Monday afternoon. 

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 13,961 samples were collected and 12,944 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 410,931 samples have been tested in the country.

With 657 new recoveries, a total of 14,560 patients recovered from coronavirus till date. 

The deceased, of whom 33 were males and nine females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 11-20 years, three between 21-30, one between 31-40, seven were between 41-50, 10 aged between 51-60, 12 between 61-70, four between 71-80, two between 81-90 and two were between 91-100 years. 

Under division-wise categorisation, 25 hailed from the Dhaka division, eight from Chattogram, two each from Khulna, Barishal and Mymensingh and one each from Rajshahi, Sylhet and Rangpur divisions. 

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 402,699 as of Monday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 7,006,436 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 3,219,929 infected patients, 3,166,177 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 53,752 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.

So far, 3,140,718 people have recovered.
