42 more die as Bangladesh records 3,114 new positive cases

42 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Friday, taking the death toll to 1,968. Besides, 3,114 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 156,391 confirmed cases in total. 

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Friday afternoon. 

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 14,781 samples were collected and 14,650 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 817,347 samples have been tested in the country.

With 1,606 new recoveries, a total of 68,048 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 32 were males and 10 females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 11-20 years, three between 21-30, one between 31-40, five between 41-50 years, 11 were between 51-60 years, 11 between 61-70, seven between 71-80 and three were between 81-90 years.

Under division-wise categorisation, 18 hailed from the Dhaka division, ten from Chattogram, four from Rangpur, three each from Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet, and one was from the Barishal division.

31 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas 11 died at home.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 520,634 as of Friday morning, according to the data by Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 10,836,500 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 4,320,050 infected patients, 4,261,914 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 58,136 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.

So far, 5,723,808 people have recovered.
