44 judges infected with Covid-19

A total of 44 judges and 167 staff of subordinate courts were infected with coronavirus while working for the virtual court as of Monday (6 July).

Law ministry's Public Relations Officer Md Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter to the Business Post on Tuesday.

On June 24, Judge of the Lalmonirhat Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Ferdous Ahmed died from Covid-19 virus infection. He was the first judge in Bangladesh who died of the disease.

Since March 26, the Supreme Court suspended the operation of all courts as part of the government efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Later on May 11, the court proceedings began through videoconference after President Abdul Hamid promulgated an ordinance on May 10.
