4.5kg gold recovered from Biman flight at Ctg airport

Around 4.5 kg of gold was recovered from underneath the seat of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram by National Security Intelligence (NSI) and customs detectives on Saturday morning.

Joint Director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID), Md Saifur Rahman, confirmed the matter.

Acting on a tip-off, NSI and CIID officials raided Biman's BG-152 flight from Sharjah that landed at the airport around 8:40 am on Saturday, said the CIID official.

Later, they recovered the gold wrapped in four packets from underneath the seats of the aircraft.

A total of 69 gold bangles, 11 chains, two lockets, and three rings weighing 4.5 kg, or 385.93 tolas, were found in the four packets.

CIID officials said the market value of the gold is around Tk 3.85 crore. Legal action is being taken regarding the matter, they said.
