The second day of the latest 48-hour countrywide blockade, called by BNP and like-minded opposition parties to press home their one-point demand, is underway in a lax manner with regular vehicular movement on the streets Monday morning.

The blockade started at 6am Sunday and it will come to an end at 6am Tuesday.

With this, the BNP and like-minded opposition parties have been observing seven blockades without much public response since October 31.

Presence of public transport on Dhaka streets and commuters seemed to be higher compared to previous blockades, despite tension and fear of violence.

Law enforcers were seen patrolling the streets and remained deployed at several important points of Dhaka, after Awami League yesterday announced names of its 298 candidates for 300 seats in the upcoming parliamentary election.

Vehicles of media outlets, ambulances and vehicles transporting oxygen cylinders and medicines will remain out of the purview of the blockade.

As of filing this report at 8:45 am, miscreants set three buses on fire at a gas refuelling station in Nator. Details regarding the incident could not be found immediately.
