48 reserved seats, 1,549 women want to be AL MPs

Against only 48 reserved seats in the 12th National Parliament, 1,549 women bought nomination forms from the ruling Awami League. The party has sold forms worth Tk 7,74,50,000.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader made the disclosure on Thursday at a press briefing in the party central office in Dhaka. The ruling party had started selling nomination forms from Tuesday, and the process ended on Thursday.

The party has earned Tk 1,08,50,000 by selling 217 nomination forms on the final day. The Awami League sold 522 forms on the second day (Wednesday). The total income from the 2nd day is Tk 2,61,00,000.

They sold 522 forms on the first day (Tuesday). Total income from the first day is Tk 4,05,00,000. The ruling party can elect 48 lawmakers in reserved seats, while the Jatiya Party can elect the remaining two members.
